Four browser compatibility check for your website

June 4, 2008

Yesterday a friend on Instant Chat showed me a website designed by him,he asked me to see whether the website design is compatible on different browers like Opera, netscape browser and to make some  screenshots of his design in different browsers as I have 6 different browsers installed on my computer.

I would have captured screenshot to see the compatibility on different browser but how many screenshots can I take ? And also it would have used my 20-30 min of time to capture and upload them. So I decided to Use Google search engine and track any tools which  can check the compatibility of the website in other different browsers. After deep searching,I found 4 awesome servies

Just add the url and see your website in different browser with screenshots

1. Browsershots –  This is a open-source online service where you can check how your website looks in 60+ different browser and capture their screenshot with a simple click. It shows how your website will look in linux,Windows,Mac and BSD operating system. They have distributed number of computers which will open your website in their browser. Then they will make screenshots and upload them to the central server.

2. Net renderer – If you are using Internet explorer and what to see how your website will look in the older version of Internet explorer like 5.5 and 6 or newer Internet explorer 7 and 8 beta then this tool is for you.You can also check how different your website will look in IE 6 and IE 7 simultaneouly.

3. Browscamp –  This is the easiest way to check Mac compatible websites.Currently they provide  Apple Safari screenshots and if you need to do compatibility check on all browser then you have go with their paid service. The paid service gives the possibility to test your websites by taking full control of a Mac OS X system. Only thing we need is a VNC client and a fast Internet connection. But you can try out the demo.

4. IE Tester – A similar service like net renderer but IE tester is a application which is around 23mb in size.IE tester allows you to have the rendering and javascript engines of IE8 beta 1, IE7 IE 6 and IE5.5 browser on Vista and XP operating system. You can directly download their compatible application from here.
