Google Knol can be considered as a Wikipedia,It is in public beta now and is has hundreds of articles written already. The content and articles are submitted by users, just like wikipedia.Google defines Knol as user generated content and consider it as a unit of knowledge.Google is hoping that the most popular Knol pages will rise naturally through the search results and hopefully their will be no Google manipulating results made especially for Knol.

Google have a tactics to promote knol by encouraging users to submit content and paying them money for writing the articles by using Google adsense placement alongside their contributed content.Knol also focuses on preserving ownership of articles and we have to wait and see how this promotion emerges out.

  1. It has a vary tough competition from Wikipedia which almost has a 7 year head start and millions of articles.

  2. Knol can beat Wikipedia
    it pays to write
also Google can degrade the rankings of wiki and raise of knol to promote it ;)

  3. looks kool and having more potential to be ahead

  4. yes but overcoming wikipedia is a very hard task… we will see what future brings… maybe they will be together the two best knowledge bases (like on mail yahoo, hotmail and google)…

  5. “Make money, and let others make money!”
I love this policy of Google.

As for Knol, it seems like a winner over Wikipedia in the very first look. Rating, self promotion, importing content…the features are unlimited which Wiki missed.

    Google rocks!
