iPad 2 As Early As Holiday Season 2010?
The Apple iPad was just launched not even 6 months ago, and already there’s talks across the web of a second version hitting shelves in-time for the U.S. holiday season 2010.
The iPad has already revolutionized the tablet computer, and brought e-reading to the fore with its stylish iBooks application. It’s captured the hearts of many tech enthusiasts, and befuddled the rest due to its likeness to its younger sibling, the iPod touch.
And yet – a new version, so soon?
The main argument supporting this is that Apple currently leads the tablet computer market with the iPad. Competitor products are only expected to release “early-2011″ and this gives the Cupertino company the leverage to truly capitalize on the market.
So, what can we expect in an iPad 2, given that it’s rumored to release so soon after the current model?
For one, don’t go getting excited over a new form factor. It’s widely expected that Apple will keep the current aluminum enclosure, due mainly to third-party products like sleeves and docks already saturating the market, and the fact that consumers won’t be chuffed with having to buy additional peripherals for a new device when their current purchases could suffice.
The big rumor going around, however, is that of a possible 7″ screen. This could mean a second, smaller iPad releasing. I think this is a great idea, as many people would prefer something smaller than having to lug the current iPad around on trips.
The new Retina Display wowing customers on the iPhone 4 is certain to make an appearance (or, at least, something similar). For one, it’d improve the readability of the screen greatly, especially since the iPad is designed primarily for consuming content like magazines and books.

For me 7 inch is useless, I prefer 9.7 or bigger screen.
I hope they don’t offset the 7″ and 9.7″ release dates. I would not want a 7″ iPad when the whole point of the iPad is that it’s bigger, and I would not want to wait to buy one.
7″ iPad please, with Retina Display. I’ll take 2.
