When you are attempting to downgrade your iPhone or iPod touch firmware — or upgrade to the newer firmware — chances are that your iTunes throws up errors on the screen that you are not familiar with.
You can get out of this by manually setting your iPhone or iPod touch in the recovery mode, i.e., hold the home and sleep button at the same time. And release the sleep button, without releasing the home button, as soon as the black screen comes up on the device.
Entering into the manual recovery mode is definitely not difficult, but to ease the task… here’s a simple tool that works wonderfully on Windows and Mac. This great yet free utility for the iPhone and iPod touch users is RecBoot. You can put your device in the recovery mode — and easily exit from the recovery mode with Recboot.

As pointed out by one of the reader (thanks Scott Hobbs), Recboot can put you out of the dreaded error codes like 1602, 1013, 1611 and so on. There’s nothing much to talk about the Recboot. It simply does its job!
