WhatsApp Updated for iOS

When will WhatsApp release an update for iPhone 5 users? Give me WhatsApp for my iPhone right now… these are the few questions you will not get to hear anymore, as WhatsApp has finally announced an update to its iOS app today, with support for the new Apple iPhone.

Last version of WhatsApp increased the group chat numbers to 30 while this new version (2.8.6) has support for iPhone 5 devices and promises to bring a better chatting experience for devices running on iOS 6.0 / 6.0.1 firmware. Interface and everything else will remain the same.

iPhone 5 users can download WhatsApp on their phone by visiting the link given below.

We wonder what took these folks so long to bring support for iPhone 5 devices. We would have cared less if it was any other app, but WhatsApp is one of the finest chatting application on iOS where 10 billion messages — that’s right! — are exchanged every day [Source].

WhatsApp is available for $0.99 on the iTunes App Store. Sure, it’s a paid app, but a lot of people have already embraced it with open arms.

There are several reason why WhatsApp is successful. First, it supports cross-platform messaging. Second, WhatsApp was launched in 2009, and there was little to no competition back then. As this year winds down, we can quickly think of a couple of WhatsApp alternatives that are growing rapidly. Take Apple’s own iMessage for instance, which just works on all the iOS devices. Another WhatsApp alternative that’s free, and has tons of features, is Tencent’s WeChat app. WeChat already has over 400 million users.

Large portion of users using WhatsApp are unlikely to try anything new, as the app works as advertised, despite the irregular connecting problems which are usually fixed immediately.
