Here is a step-by-step guide to help you jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 running iOS 5.0, or the latest iOS 5.0.1 firmware. If you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the comment section below.

Before we begin:

Note that Greenpois0n Absinthe tool is in its early stage.

Be sure to backup your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 via iTunes or iCloud.

If you want to unlock your iPhone 4S, stay with iOS 5.0 or build 9A405 of iOS 5.0.1.

We don’t expect any issues when you are jailbreaking your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, but we aren’t responsible if anything happens.

Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1

Step one: Download Absinth and extract the .zip file.

Step two: Setup the .DMG file on your Mac.

Step three: Launch the application. Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your PC.

Step four: Click on Jailbreak to run the Absinthe Jailbreak. It will take some time to detect your device but don’t worry, it’s working.

The window will show progress of the jailbreak, such as:

“Beginning jailbreak, this may take a while”

“Sending initial data” at this time you will notice that “Restoring in Progress” message on your iPhone 4S.

“Waiting for reboot”

“Waiting for device to finish rebooting” as your iPhone 4S is rebooting.

“Preparing jailbreak data”

“Sending payload data”

Step five: Once the process has finished in Absinthe, it will alert you to unlock the screen if necessary and tap the Absinthe icon to finish the jailbreak.

After you have tapped on the Absinthe app, it should load the Greenpois0n site and reboot your iPhone 4S. After it is rebooted, you can find Cydia icon on the homescreen. Congrats! You have successfully jailbroken your iPhone 4S and iPad 2. This jailbreak is sooper easy, right?

Note: Sometimes the jailbreak progress bar is stuck, and it seems like your device (iPhone 4S, in my case) will never get out of the loop. Don’t worry, the progress bar will complete after some time.

Grooveshark, one of the popular free music service, seems to have made its way back to Apple devices, Android smartphones, BlackBerry’s PlayBook and HP’s Touchpad tablet through its HTML5 web app.

With HTML5 Grooveshark, any smartphone users can access and play songs right off the bat. The HTML5 web app is basic, but it surely works. And now, there’s nothing Apple can do to remove this popular music service, as this HTML5 web app is actually a URL hosted by Grooveshark.

You can search for new songs, switch to different stations and scroll through popular songs of the week.

To access Grooveshark, visit this URL from your smartphone browser: http://html5.grooveshark.com

Previously, the Grooveshark app was removed from the Apple Store, eventually forcing the company to release an app on jailbroken devices. Now, they have gone full HTML5, and abandoned Flash of course.

Not every smartphone device can stream music using the HTML5 Grooveshark web app. At this point of time, WP7 users are out of luck, but the rest of the players including iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android OS phones, etc. can invariably enjoy listening to their favorite songs.

It’s good to know that Grooveshark has found a way to circumvent the curated nature of Apple’s App Store. But can anyone confirm if it is mandatory to pay $9 per month to play unlimited songs on this HTML5 web app?

Also, let us know what you think of this new HTML5 web app — like it or hate it?

iH8sn0w, the mind behind Sn0wbreeze jailbreak, has released an update for iREB, which is yet another popular tool to install custom firmware on your Apple devices. The new version is available for download with a lot of improvements and, of course, support for iOS 5 firmware.

iREB R5 is a Windows-only utility. From iTunes errors — error 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604 — to unexpected white-screen problems on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and other minor issues here and there can be settled and resolved with iREB R5.

Let’s say when you are trying to restore a firmware, error messages are displayed on your iTunes. This tool can help you restore custom IPSW and bypass the iTunes error messages like 1600, 1604, etc.

You can put your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad in Pwned DFU mode using this tool.

If your device is going in an infinite loop (because you have jailbroken your device, partially), then you can do a quick recovery using iREB R5. Click on Recovery Mode Loop Fixer to get out of infinite loops. You can also grab SHSH files, fix 1015 errors instantly.

To test iREB R5, and to make sure it doesn’t crash, I had to make a switch from Mac to Windows 7. Let me tell you, the switch was worth it.

This grisly affair took place at Apple’s Beijing flagship store after it failed to open on schedule to sell iPhone 4S. And then the love for iPhone 4S brought the worst out of these people who were standing in freezing weather for almost a day. Some of the crowd went bonkers. What went wrong?

When the crowd knew Apple has halted the sale of all iPhone models from its stores in China, they couldn’t take it anymore, thus the act of Angry Birds was set in motion and the eggs were decisively thrown onto the Apple Store.

In the end, no one was able to buy iPhone 4S, but more importantly for the people of China, Apple “broke customers’ heart,” reports BBC.

We have seen them before. And we love to see them again and again. Because, to tell you the truth, these whimsical iPhone concepts are really beautiful and captivating.

ADR Studios published photos of what they call as iPhone SJ a few days ago. Now, they have fabricated their imagination, created ravishing concept of the upcoming iPhone which you can find below in the form of a video. There’s more: this iPhone is supposed to be a polycarbonate device with a glass capacitive screen.

Oh, and did we mention the iPhone SJ has a new A6 dual core processor and 10MP camera? Watch the video:

Flip through Apple Discussion Forum, and you will know every iPhone 4 user is craving for Siri, which is Apple’s personal voice assistant technology taking the world over by storm. Take this page for instance, that has spanned for 14-pages and counting replies about Siri and its integration on iPhone 4.

Now we know Siri is exclusive to iPhone 4S. But this presents us with the question: Can Apple really push Siri on iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 4G?

When the developer version of iOS 5.1 beta was released a few days ago, it sparked interest among developers, and that is when Cult of Mac discovered there was a hidden dictation’s details in the developer iOS firmware. This details were previously reserved exclusively for Siri in iPhone 4S.

This means whenever iOS 5.1 is released, and whenever A4 owners will update their device to this firmware, they might be in for a surprise. That said, this information alone cannot confirm the veracity of Siri coming in the next firmware; however, Cody from iDownloadblog looked at the About Dictation and Privacy section, and believes Apple is opening up Siri for other iOS devices very soon.

What do you think? Is Apple playing fair by holding back Siri for other iOS devices? Probably holding back Siri has escalated the sales of iPhone 4S.

Another update. Yes, the iPhone hackers are inching closer to release the untethered jailbreak. We simply couldn’t resist posting this because we promised to update you iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners on the never-ending jailbreak scene.

Probably one of the biggest concern to the iPhone hackers was to devise a way to get rid of the sandbox errors. Today, these brilliant hackers cracked the code, hinting with a tweet posted by planetbeing:

And we’re out of the sandbox with @saurik’s invaluable help! (well, at least there’s a PoC) Turning out more complex than X-Gold 618.

Not too long ago we said the release of untethered jailbreak is imminent. Now, all you iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users out there, download and update your device to iOS 5.0.1 , as that is the firmware advocated by iPhone hackers for jailbreaking your devices.

The sandbox measure hides the information from being discovered by malicious processes. In other words, Sandbox is a running code walled within a security environment so as to limit external sources from accessing it. One of the crucial step to jailbreak is to escape the sandbox.

Update: In his latest blog post, Pod2g promises the A5 jailbreak is not far away now:

Here are some news about the current work on the A5 research. @planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak. Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course. We all want this to be finished ASAP, we’re getting tired!

Looking at the progress and the way these iPhone hackers are sweeping off the iOS 5′s tightly guarded wall, it shouldn’t take more than a week or two for the jailbreak utility to release publicly.

No need to be absolutely gutted about losing your iPhone to water, as California-based company has a solution to permanently waterproof your iPhone, or any smartphone for that matter, forever.

Liquipel’s technology is here to save your iPhone from accidental water damages. The company has demonstrated their supreme chemical coating technology that serves as an invisible armor which permanently protects your cell phone from any form of liquid medium.

And there’s no need to dress your iPhone with a case, as Liquipel has its own coating technology that shields your devices for a price. Sounds too good to be true? To prove the point, Liquipel has put up several demonstration videos on their website.

Here is one of them — an iPhone 4S battling against the tide of water:

The site states that there are currently 11 different kinds of smartphones — Apple iPhone 3G, 3GS 4 and 4S; HTC Evo 4G, Shift 4G, MyTouch 4G and Thunderbolt; Samsung Charge; Motorola Droid X and X2 — that can be treated with this magical shield for $59.

According to Liquipel’s website:

It is not visible to the human eye, virtually undetectable and Liquipel will not compromise the look, feel, and performance of your electronics. Liquipel penetrates the entire device as a whole, including all of the vital components inside and out to provide optimal protection against accidental contact with liquids.

So what does this mean?

You can potentially turn your iPhone or any smartphone into an underwater camera. You can shower with your iPhone every day, finally. And probably get out of submarine and camp out underneath the sea for a day or two — okay, that’s too much, but you get the point.

However, the downside of this chemical coating is its price. While it is certainly not very expensive, but shelling out $59 can be a bit too much to ask for, especially if your smartphone is not entirely in mint condition.

Probably you can buy any of the waterproof iPhone cases available at Amazon, that is not only cheap but also gives a sturdy look and feel when you hold the smartphone in your hands.

Also, for $59, you won’t get a screenguard-like sheet to be applied on your iPhone. You have to send your device off to Liquipel and have them apply this coating on your phone. This can probably take a day or two.

We can’t confirm the veracity of Liquipel’s coating technology, but stealing from the first glance of the video, this product is probably the only game in town that can protect your smartphone, like, forever. Do you think all this sounds too good to be true? Let me know what do you think through the comments section below.

Another quick update for those who are fervently waiting to jailbreak their iPhone 4S and iPad 2 device.

Well, just keep waiting.

As you already know, the iPhone hackers have teamed up to bring working untethered jailbreak to the A5 processor devices. We followed them on Twitter to find out their train of progress. So far, they are hitting the right note. Here is the tweet from Musclenerd posted few hours ago:

We all know these iPhone hackers have a knack to jailbreak any firmware, so questioning the veracity of these tweets is definitely out of question. Previously, these hackers have recommended iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users to upgrade to the official iOS 5.0.1 firmware, which stands as a firm proof that the working jailbreak is on the way.

As it has been speculated before, jailbreaking A5 processor devices is an out of the ordinary experience for iPhone hackers. However, Pod2G pooled the members of Chronic and iPhone Dev team to crack the code. And looks like this brilliant team is working against the time, sweating their guts out to release this jailbreak utility to the masses.

For now, all you iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners out there can get back to work while we will keep our eyes peeled to let you know if anything interesting comes up from the chamber of iPhone hackers.
