Along with Audio, Photos, Apps, Books, there is Other space available on your iPhone.

Let’s say that you have an iPhone, 16GB model. To know how much space is occupied by Other, launch the iTunes Player. Make sure that you have connected your iPhone to your computer. From the iTunes Player, go to your device, and at the bottom of the iTunes window you will notice the iPhone’s disk space.

In my case, my iPhone 4S has 4.5 GB of data stored in Other. You can always reclaim this space by removing the temporary files and games that automatically saves data.

The Other storage space shown on your iTunes window is usually cache and app-related files. For instance, when you save a game on an iPhone, the data will be stored in Other. When you upgrade your iPhone to a newer iOS, Other will have system cache files stored

Problem?

Some of the jailbroken iPhone users have said that iTunes only shows Other space. This means the storage graph doesn’t show the space occupied by audio, photos or books.

The solution to this problem is simple. You have to unplug your iPhone, respring it, and plug it back in the computer. You can also hit the Sync button on your iTunes to bring everything back to normal. Resyncing can also remove partially downloaded apps, ultimately freeing up your iPhone’s space.

If you are looking for recovering your iPhone’s storage space, check out iCleaner, a useful Cydia app that removes junk and useless files from an iPhone.

Searching for a free file cleaner for your iPhone?

Storing music videos, audios and your favorite movies is enough to use up the allocated storage space on your iPhone. For the most part, the available iPhone disk space is not enough to store everything.

Given that iPhone doesn’t come with an expanded memory slot, the only way to add up extra space is to free up the allocated space. In other words, removing data from an iOS device is probably the quickest way to earn additional storage space.

After you have deleted big files and media content, you can utilize the freed up space again. You can now install apps and heavy games on your iPhone.

Better Way to Recover Storage Space on iPhone

A better way to free up space is to use Cydia app like iCleaner. Apple iPhone jailbroken users can use iCleaner app to remove junk files from their iOS device.

All the redundant, cache files and temporary files that become a part of your iPhone’s storage space will be completely removed. Be careful while using this app though, as it will also remove Safari browser’s cookies and deletes the browsing history.

Apart from deleting cache files and database information, iCleaner will also delete apps log files and crash reports that are stored on your iPhone. These files may not be of huge size, but there may be hundreds of such files, and permanently removing these files and other data from an iOS device can only help you reclaim space.

Even the partially downloaded apps, tweaks and plugins will be deleted automatically. iCleaner provides in-depth cleaning facility by removing older browsing history of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.

Using iCleaner…

After you have downloaded a copy of iCleaner from the Big Boss Repo, tap on the icon that appears on your iPhone’s homescreen. Tapping on Analyze will analyze the number of useless files and the disk space it has utilized, which is very useful for those who actually care about older data.

Once you tap on the Clean button, the app will delete the hidden data stored on your iPhone.

After hitting the Clean button, I was able to recover 49MB of space — not bad, especially considering the fact that these files were removed from Safari browser.

Download iCleaner: Head over to Cydia app, tap on Search. Now type in the keyword iCleaner to download the app.
Requirements: iOS 4.2.1, iOS 5 or higher firmware.
Tested on: iPhone 4S.
Works on: iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 3GS/3G, iPod Touch 4G/3G and iPad 1 and 2.

There are truly many ways to increase the loudness of your iOS devices.

You can always connect your device to a good stereo speaker system for a better sound output. You may also use audio accessories to amplify the audio. If you have a jailbroken device, use Cydia apps like Volume Booster to get the maximum out of your iOS device.

Is there any other way to boost the music volume blaring out of the iTunes music player? Yes, there is, and the solution may raise quite a few eyebrows for it is downright silly.

Crank up Your iOS Devices Volume:

This unique solution, a never-seen-before idea comes from Reddit.

Check the basics: More often than not, a lot of iPhone users have volume limit on their device. You may want to navigate to Settings > Music > Volume Limit and make sure the Volume Limit is turned off.

Solution: Hit the play button and then put your iOS device — iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch — in an empty glass vase or a jug.

That’s silly, I know. But hey, it works!

You can also cup your hands around the speaker to get a louder sound effect.

Samsung Galaxy S3 is not only a big smartphone but also a powerful one that has a new quad-core Exynos processing juice, HD Super AMOLED display, 8MP camera along with a bunch of interesting features.

The number of smartphones shipped by Samsung in the first quarter of 2011 were much lesser than Apple, Nokia and BlackBerry. Now, times have changed. Now, Samsung is the market leader, all thanks to its Galaxy series of smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Vs. Galaxy S2 Phone Features Compared

Here are the official specs and feature comparison of Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S2 smartphone.

The S3 smartphone does retain the physical home button, though in comparison to Galaxy S2, it is now slimmer and less obvious. Compared to S2, the new 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor is supposedly 65 percent faster, which means better performance.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Vs. Apple iPhone 4S Features Compared

This top-of-the-range Galaxy smartphone is a formidable challenge to its rivals. One of the direct rival is Apple iPhone, which Samsung is planning to beat through larger screen and a more powerful processor.

The real fight in the mobile market has just begun, with Samsung battling against rest of the smartphone companies including the behemoth Apple, of course. The new Galaxy S3 may not be an iPhone 4S killer but it is definitely an improvement. This improvement is enough to garner more eyeballs than before and also successfully convert a part of iPhone 4/4S users to Galaxy.

Galaxy fans are not complaining. They are excited to know that Galaxy phones have come this far and been a roaring success till now.

Additionally, Galaxy SIII includes ‘Game Hub’ and ‘Video Hub’, which provide users access to various social games and high quality TV and movies. These entertaining features will initially be rolled out in selected countries and then subsequently on the global market.

The smartphone also comes with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

Given that even IT Professionals are recommending Android phones, the choice to buy the best Android smartphone should be a no-brainer for the most part.

But this doesn’t mean Apple iPhone 4S isn’t a winner. The smartphone has already been declared a success with four million sales in its first weekend. Apple right now may not have an answer to Samsung’s S3 but they have been a clear winner in the past.

It will be interesting to make a note of the Samsung S3 sales, and it will be even more interesting to know what’s under the Apple’s sleeve for the next-generation iPhone.

Isn’t it easier to type from a physical keyboard than the iPhone’s touchscreen keyboard?

Take for instance, signing up for a website from an iPhone. This requires you to fill the sign up form while making sure that you escape the autocorrect feature, type in your email address correctly, add a valid phone number (requires you to switch from alphabet to number mode), and occasionally copy / paste your home address.

Here is a really useful trick that I have been using to fill online form, sign in to my gmail account, register to new websites and forums from my iPhone’s Safari browser.

Instantly Fill Online Forms on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

You can use the keyboard shortcuts for filling text fields automatically on your iOS device. Probably not a lot of people know about this, so here’s how to enable keyboard shortcuts on iOS 5:

Step 1: Go to Settings -> General.

Step 2: Scroll to find Keyboard — tap on it. Now go to Add New Shortcut…

Step 3: You will be requested to add a Phrase and a Shortcut. In this scenario, I will add my email ID as the Phrase and assign “ee” as shortcut.

Whenever I want to log in to a website from my Safari browser, instead of typing the complete email address, I will type ee and enter spacebar. This will automatically fill the text field with my email address.

This simple tip can be useful to fill your home address, which is probably longer than your email address. You can also use these shortcuts with your iMessage. And of course you can assign unlimited keyboard shortcuts, which eases the task of signing up online.

Note: The keyboard shortcut will not work on passwords, unfortunately.

Are You Planning to Buy iPad 3?

The 16GB WiFi model is of course the cheapest iPad (with the discounted features of course) that you can buy from Apple Resellers like iStore, Imagine, Croma Stores.

Given that 4G in India is really expensive (and limited to only a few cities), going with the high-end iPad model may not be good idea. In the months ahead, we can expect a slash in the cost of iPad 2 — you may want to purchase that if you are on a tight budget.

If you really care about buying latest gadgets, then you may want to stick with any of the iPad 3 16GB model, as I personally believe that 16GB is enough to enjoy your time with the tablet. And there’s iCloud always available for additional storage.

In addition to India, the New iPad also will be available beginning on Friday, April 27th in the following countries:

Beginning on Friday, April 27, the new iPad will be available in Colombia, Estonia, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand.

The prices listed above will not fluctuate and will remain the same in the following cities:

Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Calcutta, Calicut Chandigarh, Cochin, Pune, Noida, etc.

Here’s another trojan discovered on Mac, and this one apparently takes advantages of an exploit present in the Microsoft Word application.

LuckyCat is a trojan authorizing permission to the attackers to spread malware through the Word documents. Once the trojan resides on your computer, attackers can view the contents of your Mac’s HD, or even copy files to a remote server.

As reported by Kaspersky, there’s also SabPub trojan horse associated with Luckycat. Whenever a user opens a corrupted Word document on his Mac, SabPub is installed.

You should know that the trojan hits your Mac instantly — there’s no warning message, request for username or password. To stay on the safer side, you may want to dump using Microsoft Word for a while and use other writing tools till Apple and Microsoft addresses and fixes this threat.

I’d also recommend you to use OpenDNS to secure your Mac from trojans and malwares.

The iPhone Siri that struggled to understand the Indian accent can now answer your questions in Hindi.

Kunal Kaul has come up with a solution (not publicly available yet) that forces Siri to speak in Hindi language even if you throw your questions at it in English.

Watch the video below to witness Siri flawlessly talking in Hindi:

This Siri hack, according to Kunal, uses a proxy server and connects to Google API server for translation. I am assuming our iPhones should be jailbroken to use the tweak.

Update: I was able to catch up with Kunal for a while. Here’s a short Q&A series:

Question: Do we require a jailbroken device to use Hindi Siri?
Answer: Yes, you must have a jailbroken iDevice. Hindi Siri will work with older iOS devices.

Question: Is this tweak iPhone 4S exclusive?
Answer: No… It can be used on any iDevice with iOS 5.0 or higher and Spire/Siri installed.

Question: What new can we expect in Hindi Siri?
Answer: You will be able to ask questions in Hindi Language. The question input will also be in Hindi text.

Question: Is the tweak completely free to download?
Answer: No ETA… I will think over whether it should be free or not. Also, note that this is not a tweak but a plugin installed on a Google API Server.

Not a lot of people who own an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch know that signing out is possible on their iOS device. After you have signed out, you can always use a different Apple ID to log in.

Here are the steps to follow to logout from App Store account on your iOS device.

Step 1: Tap on Settings icon.

Step 2: Scroll down to find Store. Tap on it.

Step 3: Assuming you are already logged in, tap on your Apple email ID.

Step 4: A alert box pops up, displaying the option to View Apple ID, Sign Out, iForgot (to retrieve forgotten password) and Cancel. Tap on Sign Out.

Once you have logged out, you can always sign back in using a different Apple username and password.

Signing out of App Store account can save you from a lot of trouble. If you use iTunes on your Mac (or Windows) to download apps to transfer them to your iOS device later, then you should know that both the devices should have the same Apple ID.

If that’s not the case, your purchased app will not be transferred. Instead of rebooting your iPhone or doing everything to get the app installed, it is easier to sign out of your current Apple account and sign in using a different Apple account.

Nearly a quarter million people (mostly immigrants) in Shenzhen work for $14 a day to bring Apple iPad to us.

Here is an interesting video shot by Rob Schmitz who talks about the workers at Foxconn factory in China and how iPads are manufactured every day by them.

See the highlights on how iPad production process takes place inside the Foxconn factory:

According to Schmitz, hundreds of people line up at the Foxconn factory every day to get a job. And the rest of them, who are already working at Foxconn, work and stay (over 50,000 of these workers live on campus in shared dorm rooms) in the factory.
