Nokia Lumia series of smartphones, wrapped with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 OS, are a worthy contender in the mobile market. Out of the 3 Nokia Lumia phones we are aware of, only one or two are available for purchase, that too only in a few selected countries.

So how do you discover if a particular Lumia phone of your interest is available in your country? This is where Nokia’s Momentum Map (access here) kicks in as a really useful, bookmark-worthy page.

This super-colorful map shows countries where Nokia Lumia phones are available. Take, for example, Nokia Lumia 710; the phone will be available for purchase starting tomorrow in US.

Clicking on UK will crop up information about Nokia Lumia 800, which is the only Lumia phone available in the UK right now. Both Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 handset models are available in India.

Nokia Lumia 900 is not to be seen anywhere and remains exclusive to USA under AT&T carrier.

Just in: AT&T announced their first LTE handset in the form of Nokia Lumia 900 to be available in the United States very soon. This handset is strengthened by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS.

Let’s have a quick look at the specs, features and the price of this exuberant handset that goes by the name Nokia Ace in the US and Nokia Lumia 900 internationally.

Specs and Features of Nokia Lumia Ace 900

Nokia Lumia 900 shares the design fundamentals akin to Nokia Lumia 800, with a few added bonus of course. Talking about the specs, Nokia Lumia 900 has just about everything you want in the speed and design department.

Slashgear calls out Nokia Lumia 900 as screaming fast and exceptionally fluid thanks to its 1.4GHz single-core processor. The vivid and super-colorful screen is drawn from the 4.3-inch AMOLED WVGA display that is vitalized with clearBlack technology and tightly covered in polycarbonate unibody.

Weighing in at 5.6 ounces, the screen resolution of Lumia 900 is 800 by 480 pixels. Then we have 1830 mAh battery; apt enough to run the all day. Built-in memory of 16GB. And 512MB RAM. In terms of connectivity, Nokia Lumia 900 offers 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and of course LTE.

The back camera has a dual LED flash with Carl Zeiss lens while the front-facing camera sports 2MP. The phone naturally comes with an acceptable 720p/30fps HD video recording.

Nokia Lumia 900 / Nokia Ace Price and Availability:

According to some sources, Nokia Lumia 900 is expected to launch somewhere in the month of March this year. Though we wish the price and release date were accurate enough, for now, the rumors are inconsequential, and we shall soon get hold of the accurate details, probably by the end of this month.

After having abandoned its native mobile OS Symbian, Nokia can recoup its position in the mobile market only through smartphones adorned with superior mobile operating system like WP7. There have been a few WP7-based Nokia phones in the past, but all of them lacked larger screen and front-facing camera, which seems to have been taken care of in the Lumia 900 handset.

But WP7 OS is way back in the race, despite the innovative take on the UI, the spirited marketing and the mighty advertising campaign to attract customers. Perhaps Microsoft’s biggest hope to get the word out about Windows Phone 7 comes in the form of Nokia 900. Either way, it’s a win-win situation for both Nokia and Microsoft.

That said, the faster processor, larger screen, support for mobile data transfer rate up to 50Mbps on the AT&T’s 4G LTE network (which is the highest to date) makes Nokia Lumia 900 a worthy contender in the smartphone market.

What do you think about Nokia Lumia 900? Do you plan to buy one soon? Let us know through your comments below.

Remember the classic Nokia ringtone? It is unarguably the world’s most popular mobile phone ringtone coming straight out of Nokia.

Here is an interesting story on how this polyphonic ringtone came into existence. Thomas Dolby, in the interim of his music career, spent his time in the Silicon Valley in the 90s. According to him the music business was pretty jaded during his time.

However, computer companies in the Silicon Valley were taking music seriously, and that was when Dolby worked on polyphonic ringtone, which could play more than one sound at the same time. And then the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer Nokia licensed his work. The rest is history.

The melody was taken from a composition written by classical music composer Francisco Tarrega, whose work was later brought by Nokia in 1993, although it was after 84 years of his death.

Currently over three billion basic Nokia phones have this polyphonic ringtone, played over 1.8 billion times per day, which accounts for almost 1,200,000 plays every minute.

If you don’t have this ringtone, which is unlikely for a Nokia basic handset, or if you want to play the tune on your PC, then use Zedge to download this classic ringtone.

Nokia has pitched two new phones as the company’s cheapest, slimmest, reliable handsets with dual-sim and single-sim options.

Part of Nokia’s secret winning sauce is its ability to deliver phones at an affordable price. And once again Nokia has come up with two new budget-friendly phones, the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101.

Nokia’s Cheapest Phones Ever?

With a grid-based system of icons, both Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 are not only inexpensive but also quite stylish for the price you pay — which puts most of the smartphones to shame.

The Nokia 101 phone is yet another dual-sim handset pumped with an FM radio and has support for memory card up to 16GB, allowing you to store and listen to hundreds of songs.

Nokia 101 has up to 32 days standby time, and up to 8.5 hours talk time. There’s a built-in flashlight, too.

On the other hand, the Nokia 100 is the toned down version of Nokia 100. Talking about the features of Nokia 100, there isn’t a huge difference when compared to Nokia 101. However, because Nokia 100 is cheaper than the other models, and so it supports single-sim network.

Oh, one more thing: there’s no camera on both of these economical phones. But these phones are easy-to-use, slim and has a superb battery life.

And another fun-fact when I looked up for information about Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 sprouts from Wikipedia. Apparently, Wikipedia lists Nokia 100 came out in 1985 while Nokia 101 was outed in 1992. Strange. Maybe someone’s playing with the “edit” button in Wikipedia? Is that you, Nokia?

Price of Nokia 100 and Nokia 101

Dubbed as Nokia’s cheapest dual-sim phones, the Nokia 101 will hit the shelves before the end of September for 25 Euros (around $35). And the Nokia 100 handset is priced at 20 Euros ($28), which will be launched in the fourth quarter this year.

Both the devices will be available in selected countries including India.

One may call these Nokia phones as a giant leap back to the 2000′s, but these are the phones majority of the budget conscious people would love to carry around with them. These are the cheapest phones that actually work. These phones sell.

Remember the phones with Windows Mobile OS? I’m not a huge of these phones, let alone the Windows Mobile OS. I don’t like them. However, when Microsoft released WP7 OS, I had to run my eyes over the OS to make sure my purchase was worth it. And I’m glad to say this — I’m a happy Windows Phone 7 user.

WP7 is new. It’s different. Unique. Flawless. Yes, flawless!

I’m not a designer or programmer, but from the end users point of view, Microsoft really nailed it with WP7. That said, here’s a brief look at why I love my Windows Phone 7, and what are the features that makes WP7 OS stand out from the rest of the mobile OS:

The Interface.

The fact that Windows Phone 7 has a beautiful interface is inevitable. It’s a fact: Windows Phone 7 has a unique interface designed to make things easier. The visually appealing UI is why I was attracted to WP7. You can play with it all day long.

Tiles.

I can’t write enough of what I can do with Tiles. Tiles, icons in other words, is very powerful. From calendar to direct contacts, I can pin anything on the home-screen as a Tile. Some of the default apps have animated Tiles, and these are visually appealing.

With Mango update almost here, the neatly organized Tiles will be a big deal for me.

E-mail, Outlook, and more…

Built-in outlook integration, the default calendar app, and the ability to set-up multiple e-mail accounts are a valuable addition to WP7. Because of the font used in WP7 OS, reading and browsing the internet is a pleasure.

Excellent Hardware.

Thanks to the stern guidelines outlined by Microsoft, every Windows Phone 7 has a solid hardware under its hood. With the combination of excellent hardware specs and the beautiful UI, WP7 phones are lighting fast and very responsive.

Microsoft Office

Not only can you open but also create Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents on the fly. Also, formatting, saving and sending documents is only a few taps away. As a blogger, the robust Office app is one of my favorites.

Mango Update.

The mother of all updates, Mango will be unleased this September. I can go on and on about what’s in store with the new Mango update. In short, this is a huge update backed with extremely innovative features. Mango is powerful. Mango is awesome. And probably tasty!

Multitasking.

Not exactly pure multitasking but WP7 OS phones lets you resume the application where you left them — which is why WP7 doesn’t need multitasking at all. Here’s a video explaining how WP7 OS works:

Fonts. Notifications. App resume capability. Marketplace. Instant music player. There’s a lot more I love about WP7 OS. But there’s some beef, too. My biggest gripe is the number of free, quality apps. There are a couple of paid apps, which I assume works only in the U.S. Also the lack of customization can be difficult to comprehend.

However, most of the minor issues will be dealt and fixed when the phone is wrapped up with the Mango update. So, here’s my final say: Windows Phone 7 is aesthetically elegant, simple, and powerful.

I’ve used iOS, Android, HTC Sense and several UI’s and launcher in between that tends to alienate the experience. With WP7, it feels different. WP7 mobile OS is solid.

Yes, it always feels good to switch to a new OS. This might be bit weird but all of a sudden, after switching to WP7, I feel like Harry Potter.

Seriously, I love my Windows Phone 7. Share the same feeling? Let me know.

Good news for those who are still holding on with their Nexus One phone: XDA forum members have once again succeeded in bringing the Android 3.0 Honeycomb on the veteran smartphone.

According to the forum member “Bypass23,” the Android 3.0 Honeycomb, reserved for tablet devices, can run on the Nexus one smartphone. Though the OS porting is successfully to some extent, there are some areas that requires polishing.

Google Nexus One And Android 3.0 OS

The active thread on the XDA forum can be found here. According to the members/developers of the forum, when you use Android 3.0 on Google nexus one, you will be a victim of the performance lagging. Sadly, making phone calls and sending SMS with Android 3.0 on Nexus One isn’t possible.

However, Wi-Fi, camera, accelerometer and bluetooth works just fine with the Honeycomb-Nexus One. So there is still some fun in adopting Android 3.0 on your Nexus One phone. I know, a lot hasn’t been achieved and no phone calls and SMS functionality is something that will keep you away from updating, but the hack is still in its “development” stage.

On the positive side: one more thing to note is that the SDK hasn’t been modified and is in its “pure” form. This opens doors for other keen developers to work on fixing Nexus one to run smoothly with the Android 3.0 Honeycomb. If this trend keeps up on the XDA forum, we could expect another update coming along in a few weeks.

Gaming on the Android devices has been dull so far. There was nothing much to write about the games available on the Android OS, but all this will change, change for the better, as the elite club of Sony Ericsson is all set to launch the Sony Xperia Play Phone in the coming weeks.

I’ll keep the details of the phone aside — For now, say hello to the long-awaited Sony’s Xperia Play phone. This video has been flicked during the Super Bowl telecast and the ad is, well, “creepy.”

Check out the video for a closer look at the Xperia Play Phone:

The Playstation phone, branded as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, will offer revolutionary gaming experience on the Android 2.3 OS. Although the details are slim, the features of the phone looks pretty impressive. Stay tuned for more details…

After showcasing plethora of modest smart phones in the year 2010, Nokia is all set to roll out yet another mobile device that runs on the Symbian^3 operating system. The Nokia X7-00 smart phone is in the works while its leaked pictures and specs are surfacing the web.

If rumors are to be believed, Nokia plans to officially announce the Nokia X7-00 phone during the Mobile World Congress in the month of February.

The Nokia X7-00 phone images have emerged with AT&T branding for the USA. However, the tech specifications and the features are pretty much under wraps.

Here are the expected Nokia X7-00 Specification and Features:

Display screen:

The Nokia X7-00 phone will have 4.0 inch AMOLED capacitive screen sporting a 360 x 640 px resolution size. The display screen uses the ClearBack technology; popularly known as the Gorilla Glass technology.

Camera:

Equipped with dual cameras, the Nokia X7-00 smart phone has a 8 Megapixel camera at rear with dual LED flash. The front side of the phone boasts 2 Megapixel camera strength. Not to forget the video recording which is available in High Definition (HD) as well.

Operating System:

As expected, Nokia decides to cling with the Symbian^3 operating system. The smartphone is powered by 720MHz processor and has a fair 256 MB RAM under its hood.

Memory:

The phone is expected to have an internal memory of 450MB. And, because of the micro SD support, the external memory can be sprawled up to 32GB.

More features…

The most notable feature is the four speakers stretched across four corners of the phone. This should send across an awesome audio experience. Other features include the support for micro USB, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluebooth and Ovi maps.

The Nokia X7-00 also has active noise cancellation feature with dedicated mic. All the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF files can be accessed on the 4.0 inch screen with the Quickoffice document viewer and Adobe Reader. Multimedia content and application can be viewed with the built-in Flash Lite 4.0 support.

If rumors are to be believed, Samsung will apparently bring out a brand new smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S Mini, whose leaked pictures are making the rounds on the web. What looks like the miniature version of the popular Samsung Galaxy S phone, this leaked smartphone — sporting a super AMOLED display screen — is now officially named as Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830.

The images of the Samsung S5830 handset were first posted on the SamFirmware website, which claims to have received these images from an “insider.” Needless to say, although the specs are thin on the ground, this newer version will be empowered with feature-rich functionalities.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 phone will run on the Android 2.2 Froyo whilst offering 5 Megapixel camera along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Also included in the line-up of Samsung is the “Samsung S5570,” yet another phone smeared with the TouchWiz user interface rumored to have specs and features similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Despite the uproar caused by the Samsung Vibrant users for not receiving updates, Samsung plans to keep up with the Galaxy series of phones. More concrete details on this miniature successor of Galaxy S phone will be put forward during the Mobile World Congress which is around the corner; scheduled during the month of February.
