Here is a step-by-step guide to help you jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 running iOS 5.0, or the latest iOS 5.0.1 firmware. If you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the comment section below.

Before we begin:

• Note that Greenpois0n Absinthe tool is in its early stage.
• Be sure to backup your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 via iTunes or iCloud.
• If you want to unlock your iPhone 4S, stay with iOS 5.0 or build 9A405 of iOS 5.0.1.

We don’t expect any issues when you are jailbreaking your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, but we aren’t responsible if anything happens.

Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1

Step one: Download Absinth and extract the .zip file.

Step two: Setup the .DMG file on your Mac.

Step three: Launch the application. Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your PC.

Step four: Click on Jailbreak to run the Absinthe Jailbreak. It will take some time to detect your device but don’t worry, it’s working.

The window will show progress of the jailbreak, such as:

“Beginning jailbreak, this may take a while”

“Sending initial data” at this time you will notice that “Restoring in Progress” message on your iPhone 4S.

“Waiting for reboot”

“Waiting for device to finish rebooting” as your iPhone 4S is rebooting.

“Preparing jailbreak data”

“Sending payload data”

Step five: Once the process has finished in Absinthe, it will alert you to unlock the screen if necessary and tap the Absinthe icon to finish the jailbreak.

After you have tapped on the Absinthe app, it should load the Greenpois0n site and reboot your iPhone 4S. After it is rebooted, you can find Cydia icon on the homescreen. Congrats! You have successfully jailbroken your iPhone 4S and iPad 2. This jailbreak is sooper easy, right?

Note: Sometimes the jailbreak progress bar is stuck, and it seems like your device (iPhone 4S, in my case) will never get out of the loop. Don’t worry, the progress bar will complete after some time.

You simply can’t access Megaupload because it is down. As a matter of fact, the site was taken down by the FBI and four people associated with this Hong Kong based company have been arrested.

The site’s founder, Kim Dotcom, and three others were arrested by the police in New Zealand at the request of US authorities.

Megavideo, which is yet another video streaming site belonging to Megaupload, with 18 other domains were seized and data-centers in three countries raided.

Why was Megaupload.com taken down, anyway?

Online piracy. That’s the reason the FBI has come up with to take down the second largest file-sharing domain on the Internet. However, not all the content posted on Megaupload violates the copyright law. There are definitely more legitimate files hosted on their server than the pirated content.

For instance, sharing a file larger than 20MB can be impossible through email. This is when Megaupload can be really helpful, as we can upload legitimate files, larger than 20MB, instantly and share the file.

Also, Megaupload never had a search function to discover pirated content. They never promoted piracy, and scanning every file that was uploaded by anonymous user is simply a task next to impossible.

Update: Here is the indictment.

This indictment accuses Megaupload of costing $500 million in lost revenue due to the pirated movies, media files hosted on the site. Unforunately, for those who had their backup data stored on Megaupload, there’s nothing much you could do about it.

Grooveshark, one of the popular free music service, seems to have made its way back to Apple devices, Android smartphones, BlackBerry’s PlayBook and HP’s Touchpad tablet through its HTML5 web app.

With HTML5 Grooveshark, any smartphone users can access and play songs right off the bat. The HTML5 web app is basic, but it surely works. And now, there’s nothing Apple can do to remove this popular music service, as this HTML5 web app is actually a URL hosted by Grooveshark.

You can search for new songs, switch to different stations and scroll through popular songs of the week.
