How Good is Sony’s PS3 Move Against Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect?

It was looking as if Nintendo Wii would take the cake in the motion-controlled gaming market, but now Sony is planning to catch up and get its own share. Very soon you will have the PS3 Move, a collection of devices which create motion controls more accurate than what you get on the Nintendo Wii right now.

The games specifically designed for the Move offer better high-definition graphics and frame rates than the Wii. But let’s not forget that the Move has to be compared to the Microsoft Kinect too, to be judged just how good it is.

Though the Kinect motion controller is an attempt by Microsoft to bring motion-gaming to the Xbox, it is quite different from the Wii. Here a camera placed under your TV allows you to interact with the game and you become the controller!

But despite that it is Sony’s PS3 Move controller which looks a better proposition overall, at least for end users.

sonypsmovenintendowii How Good is Sony’s PS3 Move Against Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect?

First of it’s the price of the Sony’s Move which will attract you. In the bundle you get a PlayStation Eye, a Move controller and a bonus game for $100! If you have already got the PlayStation eye camera, you have to spend even lesser amount of money.

Given that Nintendo Wii has ubiquitous appeal and offers motion gaming at a ridiculous $200, other companies are going to have a hard time matching that level of economy. But the Move seems better equipped than the Kinect which costs $150 and $300 with the Xbox console. In this financial climate, people may go for the cheaper option, as has been proved time and again.

Moreover, Sony Move console has a wide variety of games on offer, as compared to the Microsoft Kinect. You can play games such as SOCOM 4, Resident Evil 5, Heavy Rain and many more exciting titles. While Microsoft may yet be working on a vast array of game titles, the ones available right now are pretty basic and will not appeal to the real gamer.

So, if you want more excitement that Zumba Fitness or petting a few animals in on a private island via the Kinect, Sony’s Move should be your weapon of choice and with good reason too.

I have had the wii for a long time. I haven’t saw any glitches with it at all. The ps3 is just making a spinoff fail off the wii. It really isn’t an more accurate then the wii.

Mate you’re on another planet, you must be a Wii fan boy. PS3 Move is on another level.

NO lag, no glitches, button layout is fine. The games are far more playable than the Wii. Where do fan boys like you get their information from, and don’t say research or Google.

PS3 Move is amazing, it’s so accurate and with its playable games how can you not like it. You probably can’t afford one.

Wii is not superior, how can it be if PS3 Move is better? (FACT) do the math.

The wii is most accurate with Wii MotionPlus, or WiiMote Plus = 50.00. Kinect is great, PS Move…what the heck is the rubber ball for, and don’t tell me they track the remote with that. Kinect, Wii = GREAT! PS Move = epic fail.

First off, I’ve been playing with the Move and Sports Champions on the PS3 for the past few months. I have a Wii as well, which I’ve had for the past 2 1/2 years. The Wii is NOT accurate, nor precise on it’s movements. Tell me, how can a person sitting down and flick their wrist to bowl a strike in real life? Or how can a kid challenge me in a game of fencing on Wii Sports Resort and just madly wave their wrist left and right and win every time? Where’s the skill? … The Move has the Eyetoy camera which tracks the glowing ball on the Move controller. You MUST perform full movements/motions and perform them with the appropriate amount of force for whatever you’re doing… swinging a sword, swatting a ping pong ball, or throwing a bocce ball. The precision is there. I do still like my Wii, but only for titles like Mario (at times) and Zelda… mainly the 1st party Nintendo titles I can only get on Wii. But really, my Wii hasn’t even been turned on in over 6 months. My PS3 has been on for over 2 hours everyday for the past 2 months!

Playstation MOVE = Best, most accurate motion control, lots of titles, and a lot of MOVE required games are 3D compatible!

Microsoft Kinect = Different breed entirely… only good with games designed specifically for it, and I’m really not seeing much versatility with it yet. Fighters Unleashed is an atrocity. Moves aren’t recognized very often, a lesson in frustration to be sure!

Wii = Fun for little kids, not much skill required due to the fact that the motion control ‘guesses’ a lot, great 1st party Nintendo titles, but those don’t really require much in the way of ‘motion control’ so it works out. Not HD :(

People talking about move price are always doing it wrong and comparing it to wii’s remote+nunchuck..

100$ is the price of web-cam + move controller and a game but WITHOUT move’s other controller (the one in the left hand in above picture) that’s an extra 40$!
Other move’s controllers will be 50$+40$ each.. Quite pricey!

At least kinect already allows 4 players and wii full controler is about 50/60$… you do the math!

Move is a money sucker in my opinion.

guys its been proven in the games that wii is more accurate, precision in ball tracking is rubbish when your not accurate. My local gamestop had to take the move off the demo pod because it glitched and lagged so bad. they always have the motion plus demos on …..why….cos nintendo were spot on with ir(x2) infra red-immidiate responce. sure you can stand in a room and be precision tracked to perfection. however with me i want accurate movements, swings, and actions when playing. as well as a better controller to hold while playing, the reviews for a lot of games on move when compared to wii state 1. bad botton layout, 2. lag, 3. glitching, 4. restricted options. and thats when comparing resort to champions, resi 4 to 5, and lotr:aragorns quest sword movements accuracy to swing precision. wii won them all…fact. so i have traded my ps3 a console that had 4 years to rival and still make a mess of it says only one thing to me. they dont know what they want and cheap cash in on an already superior product. wii has won and will continue to do so.

Spoken like a true gamer, sir. Seems that Sony came to the table with gamers in mind. I saw the vids from 2002 where the Playstation engineers were looking at motion controls and they could have half-assed a motion controller like Nintendo did and pushed it on the public as a “revolution”. They didn’t. Why?? Because Sony clearly has a commitment to making good games, and putting the best tech in developers hands to create great games. Microsoft is turning their back on their rabid hardcore base the same way they turned their back on the original Xbox. I really would love for the Kinect to live up to its promises and be a successful product, but the more I see the more it appears that Kinect is just an improved Eye Toy. People keep talking about Kinect’s potential, but how exactly can we apply controller-less gaming to genres we love so much? In a 3rd person perspective, how can you move your character without running into your TV? In an FPS how would you reload? Would you have to say reload? And if that’s the case, if you have friends over to watch, do they have to sit silently so the Kinect doesn’t get confused?

Point is I’m a gamer therefore I want something to enhance my games. Kinect doesn’t appeal to me at the moment, maybe if they have some genius developer create something truly original it’ll peak my interest but until then all we have from MS is disappointment.
