We already have iOS Gmail app, YouTube Capture, and many more invaluable Google apps ranking within the top 100 apps in the iTunes Store, but the biggest and successful of them all is Google Maps, which has quickly climbed to the top spot within a few hours of its launch.
It’s interesting to note that Google Maps apps are embraced by Apple users. According to Jeff Huber, a Google professional, Google Maps has been downloaded over 10 million times within 2 days after the app was launched in the iTunes Store. The numbers, we believe, have been doubled since then — as the app is still harmoniously enjoying the no.1 position for at least a week now.
As many iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users use App Store on their devices to find new and interesting apps, they are naturally going to notice Google Maps app as it sits on the top of the charts, it’s free and better than any of the mapping applications we have used so far — including including Nokia Here, AR+ Maps, Maps+, Waze, and Apple Maps of course.
From Jeff Huber:
More than 10 million downloads in less than 48 hours after release! We’re excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world. Congratulations to the Maps Team on the recognition for the passion and hard work they poured into it, for this release and over the last 7+ years.
Launched in 2005, Google Maps in its nascent stage offered directions routes and it took the Google Maps Team almost 7 years of effort to become a superior, full-blown mapping service offering more than just directions. The mobile apps, on both Android and iOS, are free and convenient to use.
