WHAT IS WIFI 6 AND WHAT ARE ITS ADVANTAGES?

WHAT IS WIFI 6?

We must start by talking about communication standards, in this case 802.11ax, which is an improvement over the previous standard, 802.11ac or also known as WIFI 5. Also, we must add that the person in charge of managing the characteristics of the protocols communication is the  WiFi Alliance.  It is the organization in charge of ensuring the registered trademark that is WI-FI and in addition to evolving the standard to achieve higher transmission speeds.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES WIFI 6 BRING US?

On this occasion, by creating a new standard, the WIFI 6 represents an improvement in data transfer , both on the up and down. Another feature of WIFI 6 is the ability to expand the maximum number of devices that can be connected to an access point.

With 1024-QAM it is possible to increase the performance of connected devices, encoding more data in the same amount of spectrum. The good news of this is that it allows greater data transfer despite the large number of connected devices, that is, it would imply transfer rates of 1.1Gbit / s in the 2.4GHz band (four transmissions available) and 48Gbit / s in the 5GHz band (with eight streams available), although the technology is still being refined ahead of its launch next year; Those speeds could, in fact, increase. We must emphasize that the WIFI-6 also allows lower latency , improves energy consumption, which means batteries that will last longer (or utility bills that will be lower) .

Summarizing the above, WIFI 6 will provide us with an increase in transfer rates, more connected devices, lower latency, more stability and lower energy consumption. At the moment we can see that it brings new and better functionalities, however we will have to wait for smartphones to be compatible with this network and at the price of routers .

HOW CAN WE CONNECT TO THIS NEW NETWORK?

Once you have seen the improvements that WIFI 6 will bring us, many of you may wonder how I can connect to this new network. On this occasion we have to tell you that as it happens on many occasions, the WIFI 6 will be backward compatible with existing WI-FI equipment . So if you buy a gadget that supports the new standard, it will work with your current setup as well. However, it is very important that you know that if one of the two devices that you intend to connect is not WIFI 6, you will not be able to obtain the fastest speeds it offers.

Also, we must clarify that the time it may take to establish will depend on the manufacturers, software developers, Internet providers, etc.

In a very short time you will begin to see that companies begin to offer products with the new WIFI 6 logo and also announce faster speeds. However, we will have to wait some time for this to develop correctly, so it may be months or years before all manufacturers catch up with this new network.
