Jailbreak iPhone 4 with JailbreakMe 2.0 [Overview]

The US Library of Congress legalized the jailbreaking of phones to install programs which the manufacturer does not permit, and now the iPhone 4 is ready for jailbreak! The first jailbreak tool for the phone, which goes by the name ‘JailbreakMe’ is now available for ensuring your smartphone-freedom.

Jailbreaking iPhone 4 gets easier with JailbreakMe that uses Safari browser to jailbreak instantly so you can freely download and install apps that are otherwise available for some price on the App Store. This program can also jailbreak older iPhones and the iPad as along as it is not working with 3.2.1 firmware. And it yet does not work with the iOS 4.1 beta.

The best part is that, even if you use the program to jailbreak your iPhone, you can get back to the regular version of the iOS by logging on to iTunes and getting the firmware restored. Thus it is necessary that before you use this program, you sync your device with iTunes, as a failsafe measure.

And how exactly does JailbreakMe work? Here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch Safari from your Springboard and type in jailbreakme.com in the address bar. Press ‘done’ after typing.
  • This will open a page which prompts you to slide the bar towards the right to begin the jailbreak. Do this and the download starts.
  • A status bar reveals the progress of the download and once the download is over the actual jailbreak starts automatically.
  • Once the jailbreak is complete, you will be asked to press okay and continue.

While Apple will never file lawsuits against jailbreaking because it hasn’t done so till date, you do void the warranty on your iPhone or iPad once you decide to jailbreak it. While unlike Motorola, Apple is yet to introduce a built-in jailbreak prevention trigger, you will not get any sort of product support if you are not running the official OS on your Apple device.

But time and again it has been proven that the only way to get the best out of devices such the iPhone and the iPad is to jailbreak them. After all there are thousands of apps ‘banned’ from the App Store, which give you a much better user-experience. So, you have every reason to download and use JailbreakMe 2.0 on iPhone 4! 😉
