The Philodendron Birkin, also known as “White Wawe,” is a variegate variation of the Philodendron family, which means that its leaves or stems have many colours. This makes it an appealing plant and ideal for décor.
A unique variation developed from the mating of many Philodendron species. It comes from Central and South America and is distinguished by its heart-shaped, vibrant leaves.
Philodendron Birkin White is a fairly unpretentious plant that does not require special care. However, the following advice will assist you in taking proper care of your plant.
Temperature. He likes a moderately warm room temperature from 20-25 degrees, overheating can adversely affect the condition of the leaves and the appearance of the plant. In winter, the air temperature is lowered by 2-3 degrees, but it should not be lower than 15 ° C, as this can provoke the development of decay processes.
Lighting. Philodendron Birkin White loves bright diffused light at any time of the year. It can also grow in partial shade, but then the plant will begin to stretch, and with a lack of lighting, the leaves begin to develop poorly.
Watering. This is a moisture-loving plant and needs constant maintenance of the soil in a slightly damp state, but without overflow and stagnant water. Watering is carried out with settled water at room temperature as the soil dries.
Spraying and humidity. Philodendron prefers air humidity of about 70%. It is recommended to spray the plant 1-2 times a week or wipe the leaves with a damp sponge. In dusty, dry leaves, air exchange deteriorates significantly, so a regular warm shower is one of the important rules of care.
Priming. The main requirement for the substrate for philodendron is that it should be loose, nutritious and light. For planting, soil for decorative leafy plants is usually used.
Top dressing. It is recommended to carry out top dressing in the spring and summer, at least 2 times a month, with fertilizer for decorative and deciduous plants, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. If the philodendron has a healthy appearance and a very intense color, the fertilizer concentration can be reduced to avoid oversaturation.
Planters. With each transplant, it is necessary to replace the pots with a larger one, and its volume should be such that the root system of the plant is located freely and does not bend.
Transfer. An adult philodendron is transplanted once every 2-3 years, it is better to do this in late winter or early spring. It is important that after transplantation, the plant needs to be shaded and its watering should be significantly reduced. At the bottom of the planter, it is necessary to lay a layer of drainage.
Reproduction. You can use cuttings, tops of shoots or leaves for propagation.
Moderate watering, once every 1-2 weeks with complete drying of the substrate. We increase the frequency of watering with an increase in illumination and in the warm season. It is recommended to spray the plant 1-2 times a week. Photophilous plant – prefers moderate diffused light. The plant may be dangerous to pets.
