Send WhatsApp message to existing contact
- Tap WhatsApp.
- Tap the Chats tab.
- Tap the green circle with the speech bubble (Android) or a pencil at the top right (iOS)
- Scroll through the contacts and tap the person’s name.
- Type a message.
- Tap the paper airplane icon to send the message.
Create new contact from WhatsApp
First create a new contact if someone is not in your contact list.
- Tap WhatsApp.
- Tap the Chats tab.
- Tap the green circle with the speech bubble (Android) or a pencil at the top right (iOS).
- Tap New contact.
- Enter the requested information.
- Tap Save or Save.
How to give WhatsApp access to the phone book (Android)
No contacts appear in WhatsApp? The app will then not have permission to read your phone book. Give permission first.
- Close the WhatsApp app if necessary.
- Tap the Settings app.
- Touch Apps, and then possibly again on Apps.
- Tap WhatsApp.
- Tap Permissions or Permissions.
- Swipe down on the screen if necessary.
- Drag the slider behind ‘Contacts’ to the right. The slider turns blue.
How to give WhatsApp access to the phone book (iPhone)
- Close the WhatsApp app if necessary.
- Tap the Settings app.
- Tap WhatsApp.
- Drag the sliders behind ‘Contacts’ to the right. The slider turns green.
