By Sidharth | Features

While the PSP2 is still in the works, we have to admit that it has been a rough year for the PSP folks. However, the most anticipated games of the year were, unsurprisingly, successfully in Japan. Some of the game titles have been able to surpass the million sales mark in a couple of months.

The total number of sales for the year 2010 in the PSP universe has been put forth this week by VGChartz. For now, we will keep the numbers aside and briefly delve into the popular and the best PSP games of 2010.

So, without further ado, here is the list of the best PSP games of the year 2010:

1. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (Square-Enix)

Standing ahead in the PSP sales chart, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep game has been voted as the best PSP game of the year 2010. Needless to say, you’ll be spending quality time while playing the game — not only are the graphics intense (I’d rate it 9/10), but the music is definitely something to look forward to. The game illuminates different plot points leading up to the original Kingdom Hearts game.

Similar to the original Kingdom Hearts games, the Birth by Sleep game follows the pattern of different storyline where our Hero hops from place to place to explore solutions for the mysteries problems.

Playing this game on the PSP is quite fun. Apart from the user-friendly nature, the game has been leveled up to perform super-fast action and allows customization of players. So, my PSP friends: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep game is definitely worth your money.

2. LittleBigPlanet (Sony Computer Entertainment)

The popular Little Big Planet (LBP) for PSP has been able to retain the spirit of the original Sony PlayStation 3 platform. Despite the fact that the PSP LBP title misses the multiplayer aspect, the game is able to successfully capture the essence with it’s upbeat tone and excellent game play.

Capturing prize bubbles over a series of levels was never so fun, and it only gets better from here on as the game sports epic levels that are visually appealing. The plus point of the Little Big Planet game for the PSP is the alluring visual and audio tracks.

The Little Big Planet is for everyone. Go ahead and buy this best PSP game of 2010!

3. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Konami)

Awesome! This is how anyone who has meddled with the Metal Gear Solid would describe the game. I know, there are various superior games available for the Xbox and the Playstation console, but, for a portable device like PSP, the game is simply stunning, especially the visual effects.

With incredible game play featuring diverse activities and uniquely designed levels, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is by far the best PSP action game. Apart from the thrilling story, the game boasts of unique online multiplayer support.

As said before, the visuals are incredible and the audio is wonderfully done. No wonder this stealth action genre game has been able to hold its place firmly in the best PSP games list. A definite buy!

4. Monster Hunter Portable 3 (Capcom)

Following the massive success of the previous titles in Japan, the third installment of the game, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, comes as no surprise for the PlayStation Portable device.

Those who have played the Monster Hunter previous titles should be able to spot the new improved cooperative play and communication. The game puts the player in a breathtaking natural place where he is intended to shake his boots and battle against the ferocious monsters.

The promoters of this game have been able to ground a real life theme park in Japan, called the “Monster Hunter World.” Monster Hunter 3 proves entertaining with a decent game play experience, and this game is no exception when we talk about the best PSP games of the year 2010.

Note: Regardless of your PSP model (PSP 2000, PSP 3000, PSP 3004 and PSP Go), some of the games may not work on the 5.x and the 6.x firmware, so please make sure to check the compatibility before buying any of these games.

Your Monster Hunter Portable 3 screens are actually from the Wii game, Monster Hunter 3 Tri, which is not the same game as Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, despite sharing some content (also, Portable 3rd is only released in Japan for now, so why recommend it to English speaking potential buyers here?). It’s obvious because a) it looks miles beyond any of the PSP Monster Hunter games with higher resolution textures, higher polycounts, and multiple effects like bloom lighting and b) there’s an oxygen gauge visible in the HUD, which doesn’t exist in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd as none of the underwater areas, monsters and bosses are included. But hey, nice attempt to resize them so they look like they’re PSP screens, lol.
