How do I wet my iPhone?

You sure don’t want to wet your iPhone, or iPod Touch, just to earn a few giggles from your friends, do you? There are numerous real life examples where people have soaked their iPhone to death, unintentionally in most of the cases.

For instance, you have your beloved iPhone in your pocket all day long and the next morning you wake up, throw your pants in the washing machine, set the timer on while having a strange feeling about something. Something is wrong. Terribly wrong. And all of a sudden the realization of iPhone was in your left pocket of your pants sinks in. You feel awful.

Perhaps you are lounging at the pool, and your iPhone slips into the water. Maybe you’ve spilled coke on your iPod Touch 4G or the newest iPhone 4S gifted to you on your birthday. Or you’ve dropped your iPhone 4S in the toilet while pulling your pants down.

Maybe you have dropped your iPhone into a cup of coffee assuming that the coffee would taste better — okay, that’s a bit silly. But you get the point. iPhone can get wet.

So what do you do? How do you fix your damaged iPhone?

Don’t be devastated. Your beloved iPhone, or iPod Touch, is not dead or completely damaged. You can definitely save your iPhone and iPod Touch, or any other cell phone for that matter with the solutions given below.

How to Save a Wet iPhone and iPod Touch?

One of the first, and most important, step is not to hold down the power button, because when you try to turn on your soaked-in-the-water iPhone, there’s a mix of water and electricity that can damage the device. This will lead to short circuit and the internal components of your iPhone may technically fry. In short, don’t power on your Apple device after jiggling it out of the water.

Solution #1: The common, and widely known, method is to put your iPhone, or iPod Touch, in a bag of uncooked, brown rice. Depending on the magnitude of inflow of water, let your iPhone stay in the bag for at least 24 hours to 72 hours. This is one of the easiest way to fix your damaged iPhone and bring it back to life.

Remember the guy who dropped his iPhone 4S in the toilet? He left the phone in a bag of rice for a few hours and the device now works perfectly. There are a slew of testimonials on this trick, and everyone agrees with the power of rice of absorbing moisture.

Solution #2: You can use silica packets as a substitute to rice. Buy a new pair of shoes, clothes and you’ll find tiny packets that are usually ignored — these are nothing but silica packets. They can absorb moisture and make your iPhone liquid-free in a day or two.

All you need is an iPhone in a bag or bowl and a few silica packets covering your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can also reuse these silica packets once again by microwaving them.

Amit Agarwal of Labnol  has put up a valuable video on YouTube on how to dry your wet cell phone.

Additional ways to fix Your Water-induced iPhone

Before trying to dry out the internal components of your Apple device, use hairdryer. “Dry your iPhone out with a hairdryer for a while, and then spray compressed air into the earphone hole at the top, and the dock-adapter hole at the bottom,” which should fix your wet iPhone instantly, says Elliot.

You can take out the removable parts and pat everything dry, although you’ve to pay meticulous attention while removing the parts of your iPhone. Be very careful — you don’t want to end up damaging your iPhone entirely.

Another dedicated solution to dry your iPhone is to buy Bheestie. This product, available on Amazon Save Your Wet iPhone and iPod Touch, contains moisture absorbing beads that are powerful enough to extract and absorb the liquid out of your iPhone.

Bheestie Bag consists of blue beads that turn gray after absorbing the moisture. Bheestie costs $20, which is not the cheapest solution out there, but it definitely stands in as a solution that has worked tremendously well for a lot of people — read the reviews on Amazon. Get Bheestie from Amazon. Also, to protect your iPhone and iPod Touch from future liquid invasion, you may want to consider buying an iPhone case that vows to keep your smartphone water-proof.

Finally, recovering your wet iPhone is any day better and easier than losing it to someone else. How did you manage to fix your wet Apple device? Did you use the rice trick? Or did you simply shake the hell out of your iPhone to get rid of the water? Tell us your story below.
