Service providers across the globe — Airtel, Aircel, Reliance, Tata Docomo, Vodafone, etc. for India — can crosscheck the position of a cell phone using the IMEI number. Although this information is considered highly confidential and only in special cases are they revealed by the provider. They can however lock-down the IMEI number making the mobile phone unusable.
