I just wanted to send the list of file names which were in my folder to a friend but as the file list was massive – I was not able to write down the name of the file everytime on my notepad file.
For this reason I had to search the whole Internet for a easy method to copy all the file names easily. But there were methods like using cmd from run and creating a text file of all items in the directory, opening Excel and then browsing to the folder. Surely, this isn’t tough but here is another simple solution with much more advanced option for copying names very easily which I assume can help you as well.
I tested many different application for copying files/folders easily but this has been the most easiest one which is just 275kb in size. This freeware utility is called as File name converter which converts files/folders names into editable text making it easier for copying in a notepad file.
It has easy-to-use highlight, drag, and drop window makes copying any number of folders or files a lot more easier. The File Name Converter will generate a column of text strings, ready for copying into Microsoft Word, notepad file or any other word processor software.
Here are the benefits of this simple Utility :
- copying File names into Excel
- copying File names into Word
- copying File names into any text editor
- creating .INF files
- creating installers
- creating logs of Files
- creating list of songs
- creating a text file to store the full path names
Though this isn’t freeware but you can download a demo 10 days valid version which works same as the full version and copies all the filesnames onto notepad

Thanks majju!!!! Quick question, is there a way to delete the extensions at the end of the file name (i.e .doc, .exe, .xls)? That would be awesome! Thanks!

create a bat file in the folder u want list
for eg: if u want to take the list of a folder called

Than in the bat file type dir /b >list.txt and save than double click. It will automatically generate the name..
Note: To create a bat file
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: notepad and press enter.
After that in the notepad u write what ever u want to write in the bat files.. to generate automatic list type dir /b >list.txt
4.Go to File, Click Save as And save it as test.bat
