Wanting to get rid of all the messy internet wires that are making your house resemble a vined jungle and looking to set up a wireless network but don’t know how to go about it? Well look no further, here are tips to help you set up your own Wi-Fi network.

There are a couple of things you will need for this, to start with: either a cable or a DSL modem and an working internet connection is required. The next thing you need is a wireless, broadband router which you can pick up from your nearest computer goods store. Do take care to buy one that has a built in firewall.

The router will have a couple of ports for wired devices and one for internet or WAN. The first thing that you need to do is set up the router.

How to setup WiFi Router?

Run the installation disk and depending on the user friendliness of the router you purchased- the set up client will guide you through the process (look into the manual).

Plug the router to a power supply and switch it on, then look for the router’s name in the wireless connections list. Its default name will either be the manufacturer’s name or the model number. Connect to it by selecting it from the list and there you go, you have connected to your router.

Now to secure it from others who can connect to the Wifi network as easily as you have. Firstly, connect the bundled wire with the computer and with the router on one of the wired devices’ ports. Go to router’s settings and go to the website address mentioned on the user manual. Here you can tinker with the router’s basic settings like changing the network’s name and the network mode.

Go to the wireless security option and generate a password for the router. Keep this password safe with you, as every time you log in to the internet through your router, it will ask for this password. Save these settings and to make sure that someone else cannot access this settings page and mess around with your router’s settings, go to administrator settings and change the password from default to something unique to you.

Once your configuration is complete, unplug the router from the computer and connect to it wirelessly after providing the password. If you are able to connect without any hassles it means that your Wi-Fi network is ready to roll. Just connect the Ethernet cable from your modem to the router in the internet/WAN port, reset your router once and there you have it, your own home Wi-Fi network running.

Antonia Miskic. That’s the the name of the young girl who was captured on video while committing a serious crime of throwing puppies into the river. And later the video was uploaded on YouTube.com! I am not sure if this video still exists on YouTube but this piece of news, undoubtedly, comes in as a shock to public and PETA.

Although the name remains unconfirmed (Antonia Miskic or Katja Puschnik), but from what I’ve recollected – Antonia Miskic picked up one puppy at a time and tossed them to their death into the river. A total of 6 alive puppies were put to play in this heinous act.

When the video went live on August 31st, it spread like a wildfire and many facebook pages were created to take action against this lady. At last, PETA decided to take the initiative after looking into the matter and have also announced to handsomely reward ($2000 in cash) to whoever that finds more information about this girl, who is supposedly residing in Croatia.

Now, she’s the internet’s most wanted girl who openly engaged in animal cruelty and the hunt to track her down is on. How far can this go? What if those puppies are alive?

The world’s most resilient bittorrent site: ThePirateBay sets its foot in the world of documentary movies that will expose the three founders of TPB — how the PirateBay has evolved over the years — and share the founders stories on open internet.

Think of operating systems: perhaps Mac, Linux and Ubuntu are the only two names that spring to mind other than of course, Windows. But is that all to the world of operating systems? Definitely not, because there are some truly innovative systems which will amaze, surprise or even shock you with what they have to offer.

What follows is a look at some of these oddball operating systems which could rule the world (at least that is what they definitely wish!)

The Ylmf OS – Website

Developed by a guy, named Lai Lin Feng, who promises not to get married until he has made his new OS commercial, this system is actually hard to tell from Windows XP. It uses the same interface and is available in Chinese and English for now. Within five years (and by the time this product will be a global rage!) Spanish and Russian versions will also be available.

So what’s this OS all about? It is marketed on the official website as ‘very similar to XP but not XP’ and ‘it’s absolutely Ylmf OS’- identity crisis, anyone? A closer look reveals that it has been made from Ubuntu 10.4 with a Windows XP theme for GNOME. In addition to that, a whole lot of apps have been added to make it seem ‘original’ but that’s hardly enough. But if you still wish to set Mr. Feng on his road to success, do give this OS a try!

Now for some operating systems which are not purely oddball, but definitely out-of-the-box. Kudos to you, if you’ve even heard about these before!

ReactOS — Website

This OS was originally meant to be an open source clone of Windows 95, but things did not happen so easily. As a result the ReactOS has huffed and puffed itself to a position of obscurity, far from the revolution it was hoping to become. And what can you do on this home-grown kernel OS that resembles Windows 2000?

Basic, web browsing using Firefox, OpenOffice document access, and playing a few games (albeit with the odd crashes) works our well on this OS. This is definitely still work-in-progress and will develop with time.

AROS – Website

This OS is keeping the AmigaOS legacy alive. If you may remember, the Amiga OS had rocked the world in the late eighties with amazing sound and graphics. This OS uses the same source code as the Amiga and can also be run from inside Linux. Even the file system and layout may remind you of the Amiga! Though this OS may never make it big (realistically), it does change the world of Amiga fans!

Who knows, perhaps as you read this, some other wacky OS has just been developed. After all these operating systems do tell you that nothing is impossible!

JesOS: ‘The first true Christian OS’

Well, you guessed it right, this is about as deep as religion can go into computing! Developed by the Landover Baptist Community College Computer science team, this OS aims to deliver you from the pains of having to use ‘godless’ operating systems day in day out.

With the promise that only American Christians will be able to use this OS, the makers have truly taken religious insanity to the ultimate frontier-that of the operating systems! These features are supposedly the USP’s of this OS:

• An integrated King James Bible widget for the keyboard which automatically inserts verses from the Bible and also converts all word spellings to American English.
• You will only be able to run content cleared by the US Department of Faith! So no action games unless the violence is Biblical!
• No anti-virus support is provided, because the Bible professes faith healing.
• Lack of a recycle bin, because once a file is deleted Jesus sends the bits and bytes straight to hell.
• An inbuilt program called DetectBias, filters all incoming data for liberal bias and communist propaganda!

If you have been able to suppress a chuckle so far, good for you; because these guys are really serious.

Several friends introduced me to the world of MMO or massive-multiplayer online games. I had no idea that there were a lot of options for in-game purchases for these online games.

Some offer monthly subscriptions, pay-per-play, and free-to-play. These MMO games offer a wide array of games from older ones like the ever popular World of Warcraft to new releases like Warhammer Online. But when you look at these games, most of them cater to much older players. This is why Sony created the kid-friendly MMO Free Realms.

I tried the games for myself. The graphics were rather impressive. I became interested myself after seeing them.

MMO Free Realms is free-to-play making it even more inviting. It has now been able to generate more than ten million players, constantly increasing as of this writing, making it a huge success in the industry of online games. When you play these games, other than being free of charge, you don’t have to deal with software installations, all that is required is a stable Internet connection. After you log in, the game automatically runs in your Web browser.

In the typical MMO games, we choose our characters then go through a series of stages. With these games, the concept Sony used is rather different, this is because Free Realms is meant for much younger players first and foremost. As I started to play, I learned that enjoying these games would need an open mind. If you are only interested in a typical MMO system then you won’t probably enjoy Free Realms.

Free Realms was designed to introduce first time players to the online world by providing game training and social interaction applications like chat. I started with their line of 2D/3D mini-games.

After a while, I proceeded with their Adventure Gameplay feature where most of the games were on combat and exploration. Free Realms also come with Simulation games for those who may be interested in virtual gardening, housing, and pets.

Parents will surely be pleased with the kid-friendly MMO experience offered by Free Realms. Not only are the games less confusing but the numerous gameplay options ensures pure enjoyment even for players who are much older. Probably the only downside is the subscription feature because Sony restricts a number of games for paying players only. But considering how Sony intends to support the MMO for a long time, we can expect Free Realms to improve.

Users of Apple’s much-buzzed about iPad just got even more interesting in terms of connectivity and convenience, particularly for Twitter fans. Amid the iPad’s debut a few days back, Twitter fans holding their devices immediately noticed – and missed! – The Tweetie and users were quick to point out the need for this popular iPhone app and App Gem favorite.

Twitter CEO Evan Williams appeased the disturbing tides by announcing Friday that they have the answer. How? Twitter acquired Tweetie developer Atebits, with the latter’s creator Loren Brichter sealing the deal and taking part in the Twitter team.

But it does not end there. The loud $3 price on Tweetie has been eradicated and branding this old iPhone version of Tweetie as the Twitter for iPhone. Another great surprise from the social network team was its announcement to release a version for the iPad which Brichter posed in his site. Of course, with that, he needed not mention that the Twitter activities have just become easier and convenient.

With these recent announcements, Twitter enlivened the arena for all players in the third-party mobile customers.  We can see an even stiffer competition now that the Tweetie deal is done. At the same time, there’s no doubt Brichter is caught in the dilemma of keeping Tweetie at the helm of users’ wants and whims. Or better yet, that Tweetie remains the gadget fixture that they are used to.

Still, Twitter fans using Mac were waiting for a continuation of the announcements from Williams and Brichter. They were left hoping that there’s more good news for desktop users as well, and not just developments on the mobile facet of Twitter. This opens the question whether Tweetie for Mac is to be grabbed by another service. Of course, we can just imagine thousands of fingers crossed with these developments.
